Time 2h10m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lbs round steaks or 2 lbs stew meat, cubed
1/4 cup flour
1 1/3 cups sliced carrots
14 ounces tomatoes, diced
1 envelope onion soup mix
1/2 cup water
1 can mushroom
hot cooked noodles or rice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Toss beef with flour; bake uncovered for 20 minutes.
  • Blend soup mix with water and add to beef along with carrots, tomatoes and mushrooms.
  • Bake covered for 1 1/2 hours until beef is tender.
  • Serve over hot noodles or rice.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef. Chuck roast, sirloin tip roast, and brisket are all good options for this recipe. Look for meat that is well-marbled, as this will help keep it moist during cooking.
  • Brown the beef before baking. This will help develop flavor and color. You can brown the beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, or in a Dutch oven over medium heat.
  • Use a variety of vegetables. This will add flavor, color, and nutrition to your casserole. Some good choices include carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and green beans.
  • Season the casserole well. Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. You can also add other herbs and spices to taste.
  • Cook the casserole until the beef is tender. This will usually take about 2 hours. You can check the beef by inserting a fork into it. If the fork comes out easily, the beef is done.
