Time 15m

Yield 1 1/2 cups (approx)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons minced onions
3 finely minced garlic cloves (or more if you dare!)
2 -4 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
1/2 cup mayonnaise (not salad dressing)
1 1/2 cups sour cream
salt & freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, onion and garlic; simmer until onion is tender (about 5 minutes).
  • Add in sugar and simmer until dissolved. Cool to room temperature.
  • Stir in mayonnaise, sour cream, salt and pepper.
  • Refrigerate dressing for 2 hours or more.
  • Delicious!

Tips:

  • For a smoother dressing, use an immersion blender or food processor to blend the ingredients until creamy.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
  • To make the dressing ahead of time, whisk together all of the ingredients except for the buttermilk and mayonnaise. Cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days. When ready to serve, whisk in the buttermilk and mayonnaise until smooth.
  • This dressing is also great as a marinade for chicken, fish, or vegetables. Simply whisk together the dressing ingredients and pour over the food. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  • To make a vegan version of this dressing, use almond milk or soy milk instead of buttermilk, and vegan mayonnaise instead of regular mayonnaise.

Conclusion:

This outrageous creamy garlic salad dressing is the perfect way to add flavor and creaminess to your favorite salads. It's easy to make and can be used as a marinade or dressing. With its creamy texture, garlicky flavor, and tangy buttermilk, this dressing is sure to be a hit at your next potluck or barbecue.
