OUR FAVORITE BBQ BEEF

Our Favorite BBQ Beef image

After making this recipe twice, I lost it. Because I thought I got it here I spent a lot of time searching zaar but could never find quite the right recipe. When I did finally find my original copy, it was from a different site! (I believe it was from cook.com but I have lost it again. Thank goodness I had already copied it elsewhere! lol) My family LOVES this recipe, my husband says this is the only bbq beef to make from now on. It is especially good topped with cole slaw but wonderful plain as well! (the servings is a guess, it just depends on how much meat you like on your sandwich!)

Time 3h10m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

3 lbs beef arm roast
1/3 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 cup ketchup
1 cup water
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Mix all ingredients (except Roast) in a bowl.
  • Place Roast in a shallow baking dish, just big enough to hold Roast and sauce).
  • Pour sauce over Roast.
  • Bake for 3 hours.
  • Slice or shred.
  • Serve on buns (with or without cole slaw! ;) ).
  • *the original recipe does not call for it but I have found that it is helpful to periodically spoon some of the sauce back over the top since you do not cover it at all.
  • *I have also tried this in a crock pot set on low for roughly six hours. The roast came out much more tender and easier to shred but, because they trap the liquid, the sauce was much too runny for our taste.

Tips for Making the Best BBQ Beef

  • Choose the right cut of beef. Chuck roast, brisket, and short ribs are all good options for BBQ beef. These cuts have a lot of connective tissue, which breaks down during cooking and makes the beef tender and flavorful.
  • Marinate the beef. Marinating helps to tenderize the beef and add flavor. You can use a variety of marinades, such as a simple mixture of olive oil, garlic, and herbs, or a more complex marinade with ingredients like soy sauce, brown sugar, and chili powder.
  • Cook the beef low and slow. BBQ beef is best cooked at a low temperature for a long period of time. This allows the connective tissue to break down and the beef to become fall-apart tender.
  • Use a smoker or grill. You can cook BBQ beef in a smoker or on a grill. If you're using a smoker, maintain a consistent temperature of 225-250 degrees Fahrenheit. If you're using a grill, cook the beef over indirect heat.
  • Baste the beef. Basting the beef helps to keep it moist and flavorful. You can baste the beef with the marinade, BBQ sauce, or a mixture of both.

Conclusion

BBQ beef is a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. With a little planning and effort, you can make BBQ beef that is sure to impress your friends and family. So fire up your smoker or grill and get cooking!
