ORANGE TOAST

Orange Toast image

This is a very quick and easy snack or dessert. You may serve it with whipped cream cheese and grated orange rind on the top, but I prefer mine plain. This is a great finger food at parties!

Categories     Breads

Time 50m

Yield 75 pieces

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 loaf very thin pepperidge farm white bread (I have used Sourdough and wheat before, but white tastes the best) or 1 loaf other cocktail bread (I have used Sourdough and wheat before, but white tastes the best)
1 cup margarine (I prefer butter) or 1 cup butter, at room temperature (I prefer butter)
2 tablespoons dried orange peel
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (It is not as good if imitation is used and you can do this to taste)

Steps:

  • Lay bread slices (crusts on) on cookie sheets.
  • Mix all the other ingredients together and spread on each bread slice and spread thick. There shouldn't be any left over.
  • Cut each slice in 3 pieces (If you try to do two slices, it doesn't bake up as nice. I use my pizza cutter to slice these instead of a knife. Whatever is easier for you).
  • Bake at 250 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Makes approximately 75 pieces. Let cool completely and store in an air tight container.

CRUNCHY ORANGE FRENCH TOAST

Crunchy Orange French Toast image

Provided by Katie Lee Biegel

Categories     main-dish

Time 45m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 orange
4 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups cornflakes, crumbled
3 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 loaf challah, cut into 1-inch-thick slices
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup warm maple syrup
Ground cinnamon, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F. Fit a baking sheet with a wire rack. Heat a griddle pan or nonstick skillet over medium heat.
  • Zest the orange and set aside. Working over a medium bowl, segment the orange; squeeze the juice from the remaining orange membranes.
  • Whisk the eggs, orange zest, milk, cinnamon and orange juice in a baking dish or shallow bowl. Add the cornflakes and bacon to another baking dish and toss together. Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture and let them soak for 1 minute.
  • While the bread is soaking, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter on the griddle pan or skillet.
  • Working with one slice of bread at a time, let the excess egg mixture drip off and then dredge the bread in the cornflake mixture. Add the bread to the griddle, carefully placing as many slices of bread as can comfortably fit without touching too much (it's OK if the edges need to touch a little). You can dredge the bread, transfer it to an unlined baking sheet and hold for 5 minutes while one batch is cooking.
  • Cook on one side, rotating occasionally, until the bottom is golden brown and crisp, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook the other side until it is equally browned, another 2 minutes. Transfer the slices to the prepared baking sheet and keep warm in the oven while you complete the next batches. Repeat the cooking process, melting 2 tablespoons of butter for each batch.
  • When all of the French toast is cooked and you are ready to serve, gently stir together the maple syrup and orange segments, making sure not to break up the segments. Spoon the syrup over the French toast and sprinkle with cinnamon. Serve immediately.

MOM'S ORANGE FRENCH TOAST (THE BEST!)

Mom's Orange French Toast (The Best!) image

Mom's Orange French Toast is the best French Toast ever! Orange extract provides delicious flavor.

Provided by Mamma C

Categories     Breakfast

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 eggs ((extra large; or 3 large))
1/4 cup milk ((or half & half))
3 sprinkles salt
1 1/2 teaspoons orange extract
4 slices bread ((about 1/2-inch thick))
1 1/2 tablespoons salted butter ((divided use))
maple syrup ((for serving))
orange slices ((optional))

Steps:

  • In a small mixing bowl, add the eggs, milk, salt and orange extract. Beat well with a fork or whisk.
  • Stack your bread in the bowl. Coat both sides of each slice with the egg mixture, letting it soak in for a bit. (Using a spatula, you can take turns carefully transferring the bottom piece of bread to the top of the stack and keep going, then flip the bread and repeat.) If there is leftover egg mixture, pour some on each piece when you start cooking.
  • Heat a skillet or griddle to medium high. (If using an electric skillet, set it to 375 degrees F.) Melt a tablespoon of butter in the pan and spread it around with a spatula to coat the pan. Cook 3-4 slices of French toast at a time, depending on what will fit. Start checking each piece after 3-4 minutes on the first side.
  • Flip each slice when it is starting to brown. Add another 1/2 tablespoon of butter to the pan and use your spatula to disperse it so it flows underneath the bread. Continue cooking the French Toast on the second side, until it is browned to your liking.
  • Serve the French toast with maple syrup and orange slices, if desired.

This recipe showcases the navel orange variety known as Cara Cara.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes     Pie & Tarts Recipes

Time 3h30m

Yield Makes one 9-inch tart

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Salt
1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg yolk
3/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 tablespoons heavy cream
5 Cara Cara oranges
1 1/4 cups fresh orange juice
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 cup (8 ounces) mascarpone cheese
2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Make the tart shell: Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and 3/4 teaspoon salt in a medium bowl. Beat butter and granulated sugar with a mixer on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in egg yolk and vanilla to combine, scraping down side of bowl if needed. Reduce speed to low, and add flour mixture in 3 additions, alternating with cream and beginning and ending with flour mixture. Shape dough into a disk, and refrigerate, wrapped in plastic wrap, for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 days.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out dough to a little less than 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Fit dough into a 9-inch fluted tart pan with a removable bottom. Trim edge flush with top edge of pan. Chill in freezer until firm, about 15 minutes. Prick bottom all over with a fork, and bake until firm, about 20 minutes. Let shell cool in pan on a wire rack.
  • Meanwhile, make the roasted oranges: Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees. Leaving peel on, cut 4 oranges into 1/4-inch rounds, and arrange in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Pour 1/4 cup juice over oranges, cover tightly with parchment, then foil, and cook until peel is tender, about 2 hours, adding 1/4 cup juice every 30 minutes.
  • Increase oven temperature to 375 degrees. Remove foil and parchment, and sprinkle oranges with granulated sugar. Add remaining 1/4 cup juice, and roast oranges for 15 minutes. Add 2 tablespoons water, and roast until slightly golden and dry, 2 to 3 minutes more. Cool completely.
  • Make the filling: Finely grate zest from remaining orange, about 1 1/2 teaspoons, and stir together with mascarpone and confectioners' sugar in a small bowl. Spread filling in tart shell, and arrange roasted oranges on top, overlapping slightly.

ORANGE CREAM FRENCH TOAST

Orange Cream French Toast image

This is adapted from the Timberwolf Creek Bed & Breakfast in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, and is a real treat! Editor's Note: From the owner of the Timberwolf Creek B&B (chef #241803): "You really need to mix some vanilla into the cream cheese/orange mixture or you'll miss the entire experience! It's all about those dreamsicles we had as kids.)"

Provided by Sharon123

Categories     Breakfast

Time 18m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 loaf day-old French bread
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons sour cream
1 orange, zest of
mexican vanilla (if possible)
6 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk (approximately)
oil
cinnamon
nutmeg
powdered sugar
orange slice (to garnish)

Steps:

  • Blend vanilla into the cream cheese, powdered sugar, sour cream and orange zest. Mix well. Cover and store in the refrigerator overnight, to let the orange flavor blend into the cream cheese mixture.
  • In the morning, mix eggs & milk, in a 1:1 ratio. (For two people, use three eggs. Measure them into a measuring cup, and then pour in that much milk.) Whisk together with a little vanilla.
  • Slice the day-old French bread into 1 & 1/2 inch thick slices. Cut a pocket into each slice and fill generously with the cream cheese mixture. Dip into the eggs & milk blend, allowing your French bread to soak it up. Grill on an oiled, preheated griddle on medium heat for about 2-4 minutes, until golden. Sprinkle with a scant amount of cinnamon and nutmeg. Turn once, and cook for another few minutes, till golden.
  • Dust with powdered sugar, garnish with fresh slices of orange, and serve immediately with warmed maple syrup. Looks lovely garnished with a bit of the orange zest, too, if you have some nice long pieces. Enjoy!

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Breakfast & Brunch Recipes     Bread Recipes

Number Of Ingredients 16

6 large eggs
1 1/2 cups heavy cream, half-and-half, or milk
2 tablespoons Grand Marnier
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of ground nutmeg
Pinch of salt
Grated zest of 1 orange
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
6 croissants, preferably day-old
1/2 cup orange marmalade, plus more for serving if desired
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus more for serving if desired
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Orange Syrup
2 oranges, segmented (optional)

Steps:

  • Whisk together the eggs, cream, Grand Marnier, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and orange zest in a medium bowl, and set aside. Stir together the cream cheese and confectioners' sugar in a small bowl.
  • Halve the croissants crosswise. Spread bottom with cream-cheese mixture, then with marmalade. Place tops back on to seal. Place the stuffed croissants in a shallow baking dish large enough to hold them in a single layer. Pour egg mixture over croissants; soak 5 minutes.Turn croissants over; soak 5 minutes more or until they are soaked through.
  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Place a wire rack on a baking sheet; set aside. Heat 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry half of the croissants until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side.Transfer to wire rack, and place in oven while cooking remaining bread.Wipe out skillet, and repeat with remaining butter, oil, and bread. Keep in oven until ready to serve. Serve warm with orange syrup, butter, and orange segments, if desired.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use freshly squeezed orange juice instead of orange extract.
  • If you don't have a stand mixer, you can cream the butter and sugar together by hand using a wooden spoon.
  • Be sure to chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the cookies hold their shape.
  • Don't overbake the cookies. They should be golden brown around the edges but still soft in the center.
  • Let the cookies cool completely before frosting them. This will help the frosting set properly.
  • For a fun twist, try dipping the cookies in melted chocolate or white chocolate before topping with sprinkles.

Conclusion:

Orange Toast Treats are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are made with simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand, and they can be customized to your liking. Whether you enjoy them plain, frosted, or dipped in chocolate, Orange Toast Treats are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
