Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons butter,
4 (6-ounce) skinless salmon fillets, ((170 grams each))
1/4 cup fresh orange juice, ((about 1/2 an orange))
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
4 cloves garlic, (crushed or minced)
salt and cracked black pepper, (to taste)
1/2 an orange, (sliced to serve)

Steps:

  • Heat butter (or oil) in a pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Sear salmon skin-side up for 3-4 minutes. Flip and sear for 2 minutes.
  • Pour in the orange juice and allow to reduce to half the quantity (it takes about 1 minute to reduce down if your pan is hot enough). Add the garlic and cook until fragrant (30 seconds). Move the salmon to the sides of the pan and add in the honey and soy sauce, stirring well to combine all of the flavours together.
  • Bring to a simmer until reduced to a nice syrup (this takes about another 30 seconds to 1 minute), and move the salmon around in the sauce to evenly coat. Remove from heat once the salmon is cooked to your liking.
  • Season with salt and pepper to your tastes. Drizzle with the sauce to serve. Best served over rice, noodles, steamed vegetables or with a salad.

ORANGE ROASTED SALMON

Orange Roasted Salmon image

I like to make this for company since you can get it ready ahead of time up until the final baking step. It looks both pretty and impressive, and the orange flavor is more subtle than you'd expect. This is a healthy and elegant meal (not to mention delicious) when served with a leafy salad, brown rice, and asparagus.

1 1/2 tablespoons cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon coriander
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped (optional)
1 cup brown rice
1/4 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil

Steps:

  • Wash salmon fillets and pat dry. In a small dish mix together the cumin through black pepper. Rub over salmon fillets and allow to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right salmon: Look for wild-caught, sustainably-sourced salmon fillets that are firm and have a vibrant orange color.
  • Properly season the salmon: Season the salmon fillets generously with salt, pepper, and any desired herbs or spices. This will help enhance the flavor of the fish.
  • Cook the salmon to perfection: Cook the salmon fillets over medium heat until they are cooked through but still flaky. Overcooking will make the salmon dry and tough.
  • Make sure the rice is cooked properly: Rinse the rice thoroughly before cooking to remove any excess starch. Use a ratio of 1 cup of rice to 1 3/4 cups of water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
  • Use fresh orange juice: Freshly squeezed orange juice will give the sauce a brighter, more vibrant flavor than store-bought juice.
  • Don't overcook the sauce: The orange sauce should be cooked just until it has thickened slightly. Overcooking will make it too thick and syrupy.

Conclusion:

This orange salmon with rice is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. The salmon is cooked to perfection and the orange sauce is flavorful and tangy. The rice is light and fluffy, and it pairs perfectly with the salmon and sauce. This dish is sure to be a hit with the whole family.
