Tips:

  • For the best results, use fresh oranges. This will give your coffee ring a brighter flavor and aroma.
  • If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use store-bought orange juice. Just be sure to use 100% orange juice, not orange-flavored.
  • To make the glaze, you can use either powdered sugar or granulated sugar. If you use powdered sugar, the glaze will be thicker and more opaque. If you use granulated sugar, the glaze will be thinner and more transparent.
  • If you don't have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of regular milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
  • To make the coffee ring ahead of time, bake it according to the recipe instructions and then let it cool completely. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When you're ready to serve, let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before glazing.
