Steps:
- 1. Place oil in sauté pan. When oil is hot add onions and sugar cook on low stirring often for about 25-30 minutes or until deep golden brown.
- 2. Add green beans to onions.Stir in marmalade, ginger and soy sauce. Cook until marmalade melts and mixture is heated through.
Tips:
- For a more vibrant color, use fresh green beans. If using frozen green beans, thaw them completely before cooking.
- To blanch the green beans, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Remove the green beans from the boiling water and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
- For the orange glaze, use freshly squeezed orange juice. This will give the glaze a brighter flavor and color.
- If you don't have brown sugar, you can substitute granulated sugar or maple syrup.
- To make the glaze thicker, add a cornstarch slurry. To make a cornstarch slurry, whisk together 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Add the slurry to the simmering glaze and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the glaze has thickened.
- Serve the orange-glazed green beans immediately, while they are still hot and crispy.
