Categories     Long Grain Rice

Time 35m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 1/2 cups long-grain white rice
6 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon freshly grated orange zest
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups low sodium chicken broth
1/2 cup chopped unsalted natural pistachios
ground black pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Melt butter in sauce pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add onion; saute 5 minutes.
  • Add rice, juice, peel, cinnamon, cumin, and salt. Stir 1 minute.
  • Add broth; bring to simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook until broth is absorbed, about 19 minutes.
  • Season with pepper; mix in nuts.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality rice: Jasmine rice or basmati rice are the best choices for pilaf, as they have a light, fluffy texture and a slightly nutty flavor.
  • Rinse the rice before cooking: This removes the starch from the rice, which helps to prevent it from becoming sticky.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed pot: This will help to evenly distribute the heat and prevent the rice from burning.
  • Cook the rice on low heat: This will help to prevent the rice from becoming overcooked and mushy.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork before serving: This will help to separate the grains of rice and make it light and fluffy.
  • Add your favorite seasonings: The recipe provided is just a starting point. Feel free to add other seasonings, such as cumin, cardamom, or cloves, to taste.

Conclusion:

Orange cinnamon rice pilaf is a delicious and easy-to-make side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover rice, and it can also be made ahead of time. With its vibrant color and sweet and savory flavor, orange cinnamon rice pilaf is sure to be a hit at your next meal.
