CRANBERRY ORANGE BREAD WITH ORANGE BUTTER GLAZE

Cranberry Orange Bread With Orange Butter Glaze image

I came up with this recipe myself. I hope you like it. It isn't as sweet as some quick breads because of the cranberries, but I like the tartness. Let me warn you, though. It smells really good fresh out of the oven, but PLEASE let it sit overnight in the refrigerator before trying it. When it is still warm, but flavors haven't blended and it is extremely tart. The longer it's allowed to sit, the better it gets. We had this for Thanksgiving and I received several compliments on it. Prep time is an estimate. Enjoy!

Yield Makes 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 4

5 tablespoons milk
A few drops of orange liquid-paste food coloring
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the milk and the orange food coloring until mixture is desired color, and set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar and the melted butter. Add the reserved milk mixture, and continue whisking until smooth. Use immediately.

Tips:

  • Select ripe oranges: Use fresh, firm oranges with vibrant color and no blemishes. This ensures a sweet, flavorful glaze.
  • Zest the oranges finely: Use a microplane or fine grater to zest the oranges. This will release the aromatic oils from the zest, intensifying the flavor of the glaze.
  • Use unsalted butter: Unsalted butter allows you to control the amount of salt in the glaze, preventing it from becoming too salty.
  • Simmer the glaze: Simmering the glaze allows the flavors to meld and develop. Stir continuously to prevent the butter from separating.
  • Glaze food while hot: Brush the glaze onto the food while it is still hot. This helps the glaze adhere better and creates a glossy, caramelized finish.

Conclusion:

Orange butter glaze is a versatile condiment that adds a burst of citrusy sweetness to various dishes. Whether you're glazing roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, salmon, vegetables, or even pancakes, this glaze is sure to elevate the flavor and create a memorable dining experience. With its vibrant color, tantalizing aroma, and irresistible taste, orange butter glaze is a culinary delight that will impress your taste buds and leave you craving more. Experiment with different flavor combinations by adding herbs, spices, or other citrus fruits to create unique and personalized variations of this classic glaze.
