1 loaf unsliced French bread (1 pound and 20 inches long)
8 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, cut into 1/4-inch cubes
1/2 cup chopped green onions or red onion
6 tablespoons butter, melted
4-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1-1/2 teaspoons prepared mustard

Steps:

  • Cut bread lengthwise down the middle to within 1/2 in. of bottom. Cut diagonally into 1-in. slices to within 1/2 in. of bottom. Repeat cuts in the opposite direction. Stuff bread with cheese and onions. Place on a double thickness of heavy-duty foil (about 24 in. x 12 in.)., Combine the butter, lemon juice and mustard; drizzle over bread. Fold foil around bread. Place on a baking sheet. Bake at 425° for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted. Unwrap; bake 5-10 minutes longer or until bread is lightly crisp. Cut into pieces; serve warm.

1.063 cups warm water
3 cups bread flour
2 tablespoons dry milk powder
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 ½ teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons margarine
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 teaspoons garlic powder
3 tablespoons dried minced onion
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Add water, flour, powdered milk, sugar, salt, butter or margarine and yeast into bread machine in the order suggested by your manufacturer. Set for basic cycle with the light crust.
  • When alert sound or when indicated by your manufacturer add the garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of the onion flakes and all of the shredded cheese. After the last knead sprinkle the remaining tablespoon of onion flakes over dough.

1 tablespoon butter
1 medium onion, yellow skinned, chopped
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme, poultry seasoning may be substituted
A few grinds black pepper
1 (12-inch) loaf crusty bread, split lengthwise
2 handfuls grated Parmigiano

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a small pan over moderate heat. Add onions and garlic and season with sugar, thyme and pepper. Cook 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are golden in color and translucent.
  • Place the split bread on a baking sheet and broil until golden. Spread half the onions and garlic on each half of bread in a thin layer. Sprinkle each side of loaf with a handful of cheese and return to broiler for 30 seconds to bubble cheese. Serve with a hearty, soup-er supper

1/2 cup onion, chopped
2 tablespoons margarine or 2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 1/2 cups biscuit mix (such as Bisquick)
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 tablespoon poppy seed
1 onion, thinly sliced and cooked (optional)

Steps:

  • Grease an 8x1 1/2" round baking pan. Set aside.
  • Cook chopped onion in 1 Tablespoon of the margarine until tender.
  • Stir together the milk and egg. Add to biscuit mix. Stir until moistened. Add the onion mixture, half of the cheese and 1/2 of the poppy seeds to biscuit mix mixture. Spread batter in prepared pan. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and poppy seeds. If desired, arrange cooked onion slices on top.
  • Melt remaining margarine; drizzle over mixture in pan. Bake in 400 degree oven about 20 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm.

1 1/2 c bisquick baking mix
1/2 c milk
1 egg, well beaten
1/2 c sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 Tbsp dried parsley

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease a 8x8 or 9x9 baking pan.
