Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 cups apples (baking appled sliced or we like granny smith)
3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup oats
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/3 cup butter

Steps:

  • Heat oven 375. Grease 8 x 8 baking dish. Arrange apples in a Pan.
  • Mix remaining ingredients with fork & sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake until apples are tender and topping is golden brown, about 30 minutes.

  • Serves 6.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a combination of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, and Pink Lady.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Don't skimp on the butter: Butter is what gives apple crisp its rich, buttery flavor. Use unsalted butter and cut it into small pieces so it melts evenly.
  • Use a combination of white and brown sugar: Brown sugar adds a molasses-y flavor that complements the apples well.
  • Add some spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are all classic apple crisp spices. You can also add a pinch of salt to help balance the sweetness.
  • Don't overmix the topping: The topping should be crumbly, not smooth. Overmixing will make it tough.
  • Bake the apple crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling: This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
  • Serve the apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream: This is the best way to enjoy this classic dessert!
