Provided by Janis McRae

Categories     Pies

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 c sugar
2 Tbsp butter
2 eggs, well beaten
2 Tbsp flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp almond extract
1 c white karo syrup
1 1/2 c pecans
1 unbaked pie shell

Steps:

  • 1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and sugar. Add well beaten eggs, flour, salt, flavoring and syrup. Stir in pecans. Pour into pie shell. Bake for 35 - 40 minutes.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use fresh, high-quality pecans. Avoid using old or stale nuts, as they will not have as much flavor.
  • To toast the pecans, spread them in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-15 minutes, or until they are fragrant and lightly browned.
  • Be sure to use a deep-dish pie plate when making pecan pie. This will help to prevent the pie from bubbling over in the oven.
  • To prevent the pie crust from becoming soggy, pre-bake it for 10-15 minutes before filling it with the pecan filling.
  • If you don't have time to make your own pie crust, you can use a store-bought crust. Just be sure to thaw it completely before using it.
  • To make the pecan filling, simply combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix until well combined. Then, pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.
  • Bake the pie at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45-50 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
  • Let the pie cool for at least 1 hour before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

Old Southern Pecan Pie is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its rich, buttery filling and flaky crust, it's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make pie, give this recipe a try.
