Tips:

  • For the perfect chewy texture, make sure to use light brown sugar and not granulated sugar in the dough.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the bars tough.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking. This will help the bars hold their shape.
  • Bake the bars until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the bars cool completely before frosting them. This will help the frosting set properly.
  • For a creamier frosting, use full-fat cream cheese.
  • If you don't have any cream cheese, you can substitute an equal amount of mascarpone cheese.
  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract or almond extract to the frosting for extra flavor.
  • Top the frosted bars with chopped nuts, sprinkles, or a drizzle of honey for a finishing touch.

Conclusion:

These old-fashioned raisin bars with cream cheese frosting are a delicious and easy-to-make treat that is perfect for any occasion. They are chewy, flavorful, and have the perfect amount of sweetness. The cream cheese frosting is smooth and creamy, and it complements the bars perfectly. Whether you are serving them for a special occasion or just as a snack, these bars are sure to be a hit.
