OLD FASHIONED APPLESAUCE SPICE CAKE

Old Fashioned Applesauce Spice Cake image

I found this recipe on a Duncan Hines spice cake mix box. It was easy to make. It was not too sweet, but sweet enough! I used chunky applesauce & I did not frost the cake -- I just sprinkled it with cinnamon sugar, but the frosting sounds good too.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, ripe apples for the best flavor. A variety of apples can be used, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or McIntosh.
  • Peel and core the apples before cooking them. This will help to remove any unwanted bitterness from the applesauce.
  • Cook the applesauce until it is thick and smooth. This may take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the type of apples you are using.
  • Add spices to the applesauce to taste. Common spices used in applesauce include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Let the applesauce cool completely before adding it to the cake batter. This will help to prevent the cake from becoming too dense.
  • Use a bundt pan to bake the cake. This will give the cake a classic shape and help to evenly distribute the heat.
  • Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This may take anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the size of the cake.
  • Let the cake cool completely before serving. This will help to prevent the cake from crumbling.
