Yield Makes 1 hearty breakfast

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup steel-cut (not rolled) oats
1 egg
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons shredded Emmentaler or Gruyère cheese
Salt and freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • » In a small saucepan, bring 1 1/2 cups of water with a pinch of salt to a boil and stream in the oats. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until the oats are soft, 30 to 45 minutes. Baste the egg while the oats are cooking.
  • » Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the olive oil and cheese. Top with the egg and season to taste with salt and pepper. Eat immediately.

Tips:

  • Use rolled oats: They cook faster than steel-cut oats and have a creamier texture.
  • Choose your milk wisely: Different milks will give your porridge a different flavor and texture. Whole milk will make it rich and creamy, while almond milk or skim milk will make it lighter. You can also use a combination of milks.
  • Add flavorings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavorings to find your favorite oatmeal porridge recipe. Some popular options include cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup.
  • Cook it low and slow: The key to creamy oatmeal porridge is to cook it low and slow. This will allow the oats to absorb the liquid and soften without becoming mushy.
  • Top it off: Once your oatmeal porridge is cooked, you can top it with a variety of ingredients to make it even more delicious. Some popular options include fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, and yogurt.

Conclusion:

Oatmeal porridge with egg is a delicious and nutritious breakfast that is perfect for busy mornings. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a little creativity, you can create a bowl of oatmeal porridge that is both satisfying and delicious.
