1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1-1/2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 large egg white, room temperature

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Place dates, water and sugar in a small saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until thickened, about 5 minutes, stirring constantly., In a large bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt; stir in melted butter and egg white. Press half of the mixture into an 8-in. square baking pan coated with cooking spray. Spread carefully with date mixture; top with remaining oat mixture. , Bake until lightly browned, 20-25 minutes. 1/2 cup Crisco shortening
1/4 cup butter (softened)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups Quaker Oats
3 cups pitted chopped dates
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water

Steps:

  • Mix shortening, butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Mix oats into flour mixture.
  • Mix oat mixture into shortening mixture until crumbly.
  • Put half of the oat mixture in a 9" x 13" greased and floured pan and press and flatten in pan.
  • Date filling:.
  • Place dates, sugar and water in medium saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened - about 10 minutes. Let cool.
  • Spread date filling onto oat crust.

2 cups quick-cooking oats
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
FILLING:
3 cups chopped dates (about 1 pound)
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 to 2 tablespoons lemon juice, optional
GLAZE:
1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Place oats in a food processor, cover and process until finely ground; set aside. In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Combine the oats, flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating well after each addition. , Divide in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll half of dough to fit a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan; set aside. , In a large saucepan, combine the dates, sugar, water and lemon juice if desired; bring to a boil. 2 cups quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 cup butter or 3/4 cup margarine
1 (8 ounce) package dates, pitted & chopped
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Combine flour, oats, soda, salt, & brown sugar.
  • Cut butter in until it reaches the consistency of coarse meal.
  • Press half of mixture across the bottom of an ungreased 12x8x2 baking pan.
  • Combine dates, 1 c. sugar, and water in saucepan.
  • Cook on low until sugar dissolves, dates soften, and mixture is thick and mushy.

FILLING
1 1/3 cups chopped dates
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • CRUST Mix butter, shortening and brown sugar thoroughly, the sift together flour, soda and salt and stir into the mixture. FILLING Cook dates sugar and water over low heat stirring constantly until it thickens (aprox. 10 minutes) and let cool. PREPARING FOR BAKE Preheat the oven to 400. Place half of the crumb mixture into a greased 13x9 baking pan. Press and flatten to cover the bottom of the pan. Then spread the date filling mixture which has cooled over the bottom crumb. Using the remaining crumb mixture cover the filling, patting it lightly. Place in oven and bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes until lightly browned. When warm cut into bars and remove from pan.
