Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 mcintosh apples, apples cored and cut in half
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cream of tartar (optional)
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 (14 ounce) package pillsbury pie crusts
1 1/2 tablespoons almond flour
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Place all dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Put all halved apples in the bowl and mix or toss to cover.
  • Add lemon and vanilla to the bowl and toss apples more, to cover.
  • ***** You can add 1/4 - 1/2 cup Stevia or Truvia if you want to sweeten even more, though not necessary :).
  • Place bottom pie crust in non-fat butter-flavor sprayed pie pan.
  • I place cut halves of apples (unpeeled! :) "face-up" around the pie crust, then I top those halves with remaining halves of apples and add additional halves and pieces as needed (usually 1 or 2 halves or pieces of halves'.
  • Pour remaining mix on top of apples and cover with top crust.
  • Be sure to put 2 or 3 cuts into top of pie crust.
  • Brush Top Pie Crust with 1 Egg (blended) if desired - makes the pie crust look "perfectly" baked!
  • Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden browned.
  • BEST SERVED AFTER BEING REFRIGERATED (***Awesome*** :).
  • I use an Almond Flour, "SHORTENING-FREE", Low-fat pie for a better pie crust: it's FAR lower in calories and fat and sugar-index.

NO SUGAR ADDED APPLE PIE

No Sugar Added Apple Pie image

My sister is boarderline diabetic and controls her sugar intake with diet. Here is an easy apple pie with all the flavour but non of the extra sugar.

Provided by Easy Baker

Categories     Pie

Time 50m

Yield 1 pie, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

5 lbs apples
1/2 cup unsweetened orange juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice (or if you're like me, use 1 cap full)
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • Clean, Peel and Dice some of the apples (2-3) and add to a 2 quart saucepan. Add orange juice, lemon juice and cinnamon. Allow to "stew" on medium heat for 5 minutes. This will make the apples soft and sweeten naturally in their juices.
  • Clean, peel and slice the rest of the apples and put the lid on with the heat on low for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and mix the corn starch and water in a separate cup. Add to apples and stir. This will prevent the apple mix from being too thin and gloopy during the cutting process.
  • Add to the bottom crust of your favourate pie crust (be sure to perforate it with a fork first!), add filling and the top layer of dough.
  • Since the filling is still hot, the cooking time will be cut down; bake at 450 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  • This pie is easily prepared and frozen to be cooked later.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety that is good for baking, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Braeburn. These apples hold their shape well and have a tart flavor that complements the sweetness of the filling.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly: This will help them to cook evenly and quickly.
  • Don't overfill the pie crust: Leave some room for the filling to expand as it bakes.
  • Brush the edges of the pie crust with milk before baking: This will help to create a golden brown crust.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling: This will take about 60-75 minutes.

Conclusion:

This no-sugar-added apple pie is a delicious and healthy dessert that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The filling is made with fresh apples, lemon juice, and a touch of cinnamon. The crust is made with whole wheat flour and rolled oats. This pie is a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth without sacrificing your health.
