Time 40m

Yield 1 2layer cake or sheet cake

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 egg
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sour milk (you can sour sweet milk by adding 1 tsp. vinegar)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup boiling water

Steps:

  • Put all ingredients in a bowl (don't mix till last item has been added).
  • Pour into greased cake pan (can be made layer or sheet cake).
  • Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  • When cooled spread with your favorite frosting.

Tips

  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can lead to a tough, dry cake. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Use room temperature ingredients. This will help the cake to bake evenly and prevent lumps.
  • Preheat the oven before you start baking. This will help the cake to rise properly.
  • Don't open the oven door while the cake is baking. This can cause the cake to fall.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help the frosting to set properly.
  • Use a toothpick to test if the cake is done. Insert the toothpick into the center of the cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.

Conclusion

For a moist and delicious chocolate cake every time, follow these tips. With a little practice, you'll be able to bake a perfect chocolate cake that will impress your friends and family.
