NEVER FAIL PERFECT COOKED RICE
This is a method that I have used for years and my rice is perfect every time- I will call for Basmati rice (my favorite) in the recipe but any long grain white rice is fine. You can also cook brown rice with this method but it takes a little longer cooking time. I have posted this recipe for 1 person but you may just increase the rice and water for each person. If you use the chicken stock powder don't use a tsp for each person if say you are cooking rice for 6 don't go over 1 tbsp Pre soaking your rice removes some starch and allows it to cook faster. If you wish add some fresh chopped chives

CAN'T-MISS RICE
Baking rice in the oven offers an easy way to control time and temperature and frees up the burner on the stove. Shallots or a little onion can be sautéed in the butter before adding the rice, and chicken stock or other liquid can be substituted instead of the water for a full pilaf experience.

UTTERLY FOOLPROOF RICE
You can't go wrong with Sara Buenfeld's foolproof rice recipe
Provided by Sara Buenfeld

Steps:
- Fill a roomy saucepan with water, bring to the boil and tip in a heaped teaspoon of salt - the water will bubble furiously. Pour in the rice, stir once and return to the boil, then turn the heat down a little so that the water is boiling steadily, but not vigorously.
- Boil uncovered, without stirring (this makes for sticky rice) for 10 minutes. Lift some out with a slotted spoon and nibble a grain or two. If they're too crunchy, cook for another minute and taste again. They should be tender but with a little bite.
- Drain the rice into a large sieve and rinse by pouring over a kettle of very hot water. Leave to drain well, then tip into a warm serving dish. Serve the rice as it is, or fork through a little butter and parsley to jazz it up.
Tips:
- Use the right pot: A heavy-bottomed pot with a tight-fitting lid is ideal for cooking rice. This will help to distribute the heat evenly and prevent the rice from burning.
- Rinse the rice: Rinsing the rice before cooking will help to remove any excess starch and make the rice less sticky.
- Use the correct ratio of water to rice: The general rule of thumb is 1 cup of rice to 1.5 cups of water. However, this can vary depending on the type of rice you are using. Be sure to read the package directions for specific instructions.
- Bring the water to a boil: Before adding the rice, bring the water to a boil. This will help to prevent the rice from becoming mushy.
- Reduce the heat and simmer: Once the water has come to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer the rice for the recommended amount of time. This will allow the rice to cook evenly and absorb all of the water.
- Let the rice rest: After the rice has finished cooking, let it rest for 5-10 minutes before fluffing it with a fork. This will help to prevent the rice from becoming sticky.
Conclusion:
Cooking perfect rice is a skill that takes practice. But by following these tips, you can consistently make delicious, fluffy rice that will be the perfect accompaniment to any meal. So next time you're cooking rice, don't be afraid to experiment until you find the perfect method for you.
