1 Tbsp cornstarch
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
1 1/2 c half and half
2 egg yolks
1 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 tsp vanilla
3-4 bananas, sliced
24 vanilla wafer, crushed
whipped cream (for serving)

Steps:

  • 1. Whisk together sugar, cornstarch, nutmeg and salt in a medium saucepan, then whisk in half and half and egg yolks. Transfer pudding to a bowl and refrigerate until cold, about 3 hours.

NILLA BANANA PUDDING RECIPE - (4.3/5)

Nilla Banana Pudding Recipe - (4.3/5) image

Provided by cherichavez

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/4 cup sugar, divided
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
Dash salt
6 eggs, separated
4 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
45 NILLA Wafers, divided
5 ripe bananas, sliced (about 3 1/2 cups), divided
Additional NILLA Wafers and banana slices, for garnish

Steps:

  • 1. Mix 1 cup sugar, flour and salt in top of double boiler. Blend in 6 egg yolks and milk. Cook, uncovered, over boiling water, stirring constantly for 10 to 12 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. 2. Reserve 10 wafers for garnish. Spread small amount of custard on bottom of 2-quart casserole; cover with a layer of wafers and a layer of sliced bananas. Pour about 1/3 of custard over bananas. Continue to layer wafers, bananas and custard to make a total of 3 layers of each, ending with custard. 3. Beat 3 egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar and beat until stiff but not dry. Spoon on top of pudding, spreading evenly to cover entire surface and sealing well to edges. 4. Bake at 350°F in top half of oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until browned. Cool slightly or refrigerate. Garnish with additional wafers and banana slices just before serving. Makes 8 servings

Tips:

  • Use ripe bananas. The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your pudding will be.
  • Don't overcook the pudding. Overcooked pudding will be thick and gluey. Cook it just until it starts to thicken, then remove it from the heat.
  • Chill the pudding for at least 4 hours before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the pudding to set.
  • Garnish the pudding with whipped cream, sliced bananas, or Nilla wafers before serving.

Conclusion:

Nilla banana pudding is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its creamy texture, sweet banana flavor, and crunchy Nilla wafers, it's the perfect treat for any occasion. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give Nilla banana pudding a try. You won't be disappointed!
