SLOW-COOKER FISH CHOWDER
A great, hearty fish chowder that's lower in fat. Perfect for a winter's day. This recipe is very versatile. I use low-sodium, homemade stock and I find there's enough salt from the bacon that no more is needed. You can change up the seafood, the vegetables, and the seasonings. I find seafood chowder difficult to reheat (a no-no at work!) so I would make this when I have company coming who can finish it in 1 or 2 days.

I don't know of a recipe that better represents our area than chowder. I adapted it from my mom's clam chowder recipe, and guests often request it.

SLOW COOKER CLAM CHOWDER (NEW ENGLAND STYLE)
A creamy, very chunky, satisfying chowder. This soup is made in the slow cooker, but no reason why you couldn't cook it stove top following the same sequence. The recipe calls for just clams and juice, but I also toss in 3-4 ounces of fish and/or seafood if it is available...you might have to add a bit of extra liquid if it is too thick. I also use cut up turkey bacon instead of pork bacon for even lower fat. Freezes well.

Tips for Making New England Seafood Chowder in a Slow Cooker:
- Choose high-quality seafood. Fresh or frozen seafood will work well in this recipe. - If using frozen seafood, thaw it completely before adding it to the slow cooker. - Use a variety of seafood. This will add flavor and texture to the chowder. Good options include clams, mussels, shrimp, cod, and haddock. - Don't overcrowd the slow cooker. If you add too much seafood, it will not cook evenly. - Cook the chowder on low heat for 6-8 hours. This will make the chowder creamy and rich. - Serve the chowder with oyster crackers, crusty bread, or crackers. Conclusion:
