CLASSIC BURGER RECIPE

Classic Burger Recipe image

Summer is for grilling and you can use our classic burger recipe to feed a crowd.

Provided by Camille Beckstrand

Categories     Main Course

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 pounds ground beef ((I used 85/15 beef))
1 egg (beaten)
¾ cup bread crumbs
3 Tablespoons evaporated milk
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
dash of cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, add all ingredients. Mix together using your hands until ingredients are barely combined (be sure to not overmix because then the hamburgers will become dense).
  • Form the mixture into 8 patties. Be sure to make them a little larger than the patties that you plan to use because ground beef shrinks when it cooks.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  • Lightly oil the grill grate and place patties on top of grill.
  • Grill patties until no longer pink on the inside or until they reach desired doneness (I usually grill mine for about 5 minutes on each side).
  • Place cooked burger on a hamburger bun and top with favorite toppings.

Here's what you need: ground beef, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, vegetable oil, cheese, hamburger buns, topping of your choice

Provided by Jordan Kenna

Categories     Dinner

Yield 2 hamburgers

Number Of Ingredients 7

12 oz ground beef
kosher salt, to taste
freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 slices cheese, such as swiss, cheddar, or american, optional
2 hamburger buns
topping of your choice, for serving

Steps:

  • Divide the beef into 2 patties, each about ¾-inch (2 cm) thick and 3 ½ inches (9 cm) in diameter. Transfer the patties to a plate or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the patties from the fridge and season on both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Heat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the oil to the pan and swirl to evenly coat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook, undisturbed, on the first side for 5 minutes, until a brown crust forms.
  • Flip the patties, top each with a slice of cheese (optional), and cook, undisturbed, until the patties are browned on the other side, the cheese is melted, and the meat is cooked through, about 5 minutes more for medium-well doneness.
  • Remove the patties from the pan and transfer to a clean cutting board. Let rest for about 5 minutes.
  • Place the burger patties on buns and serve with your favorite toppings and sauces.
  • Enjoy!

NEW CLASSIC BURGER

You can grind as much or as little meat together as you'd like, using equal parts of each type. Martha made this recipe on Cooking School episode 407.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Ingredients     Meat & Poultry     Beef Recipes

Time 30m

Yield Makes 4

Number Of Ingredients 7

11 ounces chuck steak, trimmed of any large pieces of fat
11 ounces sirloin steak, trimmed of any large pieces of fat
Coarse salt
3 ounces sharp cheddar, thinly sliced
4 potato rolls (such as Martin's)
Thinly sliced pickles, for serving
Equal parts ketchup and mayonnaise, mixed together, for serving

Steps:

  • Cut both steaks into small pieces. Grind through the large holes of a meat grinder. Combine in a bowl, then grind together through small holes of grinder. Divide into 4 equal parts (each about 5 1/2 ounces). Form into patties, each about 3 1/2 inches in diameter.
  • Preheat grill to medium-high. Season both sides of burgers with salt. Grill 2 1/2 minutes a side for medium-rare, placing cheese on burgers in last minute. Transfer to a plate. Grill rolls until toasted, 30 seconds. Sandwich burgers on rolls with pickles and ketchup-mayonnaise.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the taste of your burger.
  • Season your meat generously. Don't be afraid to use plenty of salt and pepper, as well as other spices like garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  • Cook your burgers over medium-high heat. This will help them to develop a nice crust on the outside while staying juicy on the inside.
  • Don't overcook your burgers. The best way to tell if a burger is cooked is to use a meat thermometer. The internal temperature should be 160 degrees Fahrenheit for medium-rare, 165 degrees Fahrenheit for medium, and 170 degrees Fahrenheit for well-done.
  • Let your burgers rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more flavorful burger.
  • Serve your burgers with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and ketchup.

Conclusion:

With a little practice, you'll be able to make delicious classic burgers that your friends and family will love. Just remember to use fresh ingredients, season your meat generously, and cook it over medium-high heat. Don't overcook your burgers, and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. With these tips, you're sure to make perfect burgers every time.
