MY YUMMY BAKED BEANS

My Yummy Baked Beans image

Everyone loved my beans that I made for my Mom's Birthday Party...they were all filling dishes to take home with them...I have to admit they were pretty darn tasty... Sharing my recipe, hoping my memory serves me correctly with the measurements...yeah, forgot to measure...Lol! Enjoy!

Categories     Side Casseroles

Time 2h45m

Number Of Ingredients 8

7 lb can - bushes original baked beans
1 lb cooked crisp bacon, crumbled
1 large onion, diced
1/8 c yellow mustard or to taste
1/4 c unsulphered molasses or more if you like
1 1/4 c ketchup
1 1/2 c brown sugar
2 Tbsp dry mustard

Steps:

  • 1. This recipe could be halved. I made for 20 people and very little left. Empty beans into a medium sized roaster or casserole dish. Mix in all other ingredients, then taste to see if you need any adjusting...I just keep tasting as I add...
  • 2. Bake in a 375 degree oven, for 2 - 2 1/2 hours or until desired thickness, ( stirring occasionally ) I take out of oven when still a little bit runny, as they will continue thickening as they sit. These are great served right away or even cold. They were a big hit at my party...enjoy!

EASY (BUT YUMMY) BAKED BEANS

Easy (But Yummy) Baked Beans image

We all have our favorite baked bean recipe -- and this one is mine. I love taking it to picnics, potlucks and barbecues because the dish always comes home empty. My daughter-in-law even requested that I bring these to Thanksgiving dinner!!! It was quite an unusual dish to have alongside the turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing and gravy!!! The best part is that they are just so simple to make -- no soaking beans here!!

Time 1h20m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 slices bacon, chopped (reserve 2 T. drippings after frying it)
1/2 cup catsup
1/2 cup maple-flavor syrup (or the real thing)
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 tablespoon instant minced onion
2 (16 ounce) cans pork and beans (about 4 cups)

Steps:

  • Fry bacon until crisp.
  • Combine bacon and 2 T. drippings with remaining ingredients.
  • Pour into 10 x 6 x 1 1/2 inch baking dish (or any appropriate size casserole dish). Bake in 350 oven for 1 1/4 hours.
  • Note: If your baked beans seem to have an abundance of "juice" in them when you open the can, you might want to discard some of it. Baking these in a shallower dish, results in more of the liquid baking off. If your dish is deeper, the beans will have more liquid.

  • Use a variety of beans: This will add flavor and texture to the dish. Some good options include kidney beans, black beans, pinto beans, and navy beans.
  • Add some aromatics to the pot: This will help to infuse the beans with flavor. Some good options include onion, garlic, celery, and bay leaves.
  • Use a good quality barbecue sauce: This will make a big difference in the flavor of the beans. Look for a sauce that is thick and flavorful.
  • Don't overcook the beans: They should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Serve the beans with your favorite sides: Some good options include cornbread, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw.
