8 slices bacon
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 cup diced celery
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Use waxy potatoes like Yukon Gold or Red Bliss, which hold their shape well when cooked.
  • Cook the potatoes properly: Boil the potatoes until they are just tender, but not mushy. Overcooked potatoes will fall apart and make the salad less appealing.
  • Make the dressing ahead of time: The dressing will have more flavor if you let it sit for at least 30 minutes before using it.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as chives, parsley, and dill, will add a lot of flavor to the salad. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but use only about half the amount.
  • Don't overmix the salad: Once you add the dressing to the potatoes, toss them gently to coat. Overmixing will make the potatoes mushy.
  • Serve the salad warm or cold: German potato salad is traditionally served warm, but it can also be served cold. If you are serving the salad cold, let it cool completely before refrigerating it.

Conclusion:

German potato salad is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as a side dish or a main course. It is a great way to use up leftover potatoes, and it is also a popular dish to serve at picnics and potlucks. With so many different variations of the recipe, there is sure to be a German potato salad that everyone will enjoy.
