MY LOW CARB CATSUP

My Low Carb Catsup image

Having just recently started the Atkin's Diet I needed a catsup with very LOW carbs. The tomato sauce I used has 4 carbs per 1/4 cup serving...so just make sure you use one with the same or less on the label.

Tips: Create Your Own Low-Carb Catsup

  • Choose ripe tomatoes. Look for tomatoes that are deep red in color and have no blemishes. Avoid tomatoes that are green or have bruises or cracks.
  • Use a variety of tomatoes. If you can, use a combination of different types of tomatoes, such as Roma, plum, and cherry tomatoes. This will give your catsup a more complex flavor.
  • Roast the tomatoes before making the catsup. Roasting the tomatoes will concentrate their flavor and make them sweeter.
  • Use a food processor or blender to puree the tomatoes. This will make the catsup smooth and consistent.
  • Add your desired seasonings. You can add garlic, onion, chili powder, cumin, or other spices to taste.
  • Simmer the catsup until it has reached your desired consistency. This will usually take about 30 minutes.
  • Store the catsup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze the catsup for up to 6 months.
