DATE NUT ROLL
Another recipe that my wonderful mom made every year for the holidays. I remember a long object rolled up in a kitchen towel, hanging from the clothes line, and this year I found out it was the date nut roll, hung out to dry. I guess it's part of the process. So this year mom came for Thanksgiving and I documented the recipe, of course adjusting for those without a closeline.

GREAT-GRANDMA CATHY'S DATE LOAF CANDY
Handed down from my great-grandmother, and one of my father's all-time favorite holiday treats. Store in the refrigerator (rolled in the cloth), and it will keep for weeks. Otherwise, it becomes hard and sugary.

Tips:
- To make the date filling, use Medjool dates for their soft texture and rich flavor.
- Pit the dates before chopping them to make the filling easier to prepare.
- If the date filling is too thick, add a little bit of water or orange juice to thin it out.
- For a crispier crust, brush the dough with melted butter before baking.
- To prevent the filling from leaking out, seal the edges of the dough tightly before baking.
- Bake the date nut roll until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the date nut roll cool completely before slicing and serving.

My Grandmother's Date Nut Roll is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion.
