Tips:

  • Choose fresh mussels: Look for mussels that are tightly closed, with no cracks or chips in the shells. Avoid any mussels that are open or have a foul odor.
  • Clean the mussels thoroughly: Use a stiff brush to scrub the mussels under cold water, removing any dirt or debris. Pull off any beards (the stringy fibers that attach the mussels to rocks). Rinse the mussels well.
  • Steam the mussels: Steaming is a gentle cooking method that helps to preserve the mussels' delicate flavor and texture. Place the mussels in a steamer basket over a pot of boiling water. Cover the pot and steam the mussels for 5-7 minutes, or until they open. Discard any mussels that do not open.
  • Make the Vietnamese dressing: While the mussels are steaming, make the Vietnamese dressing. Combine fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, garlic, and chili peppers in a bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Serve the mussels: Transfer the steamed mussels to a serving bowl. Pour the Vietnamese dressing over the mussels and toss to coat. Garnish with cilantro and serve immediately.

Conclusion:

Mussels with Vietnamese dressing is a delicious and easy-to-make seafood dish that is perfect for a light lunch or dinner. The mussels are steamed until tender and then tossed in a flavorful Vietnamese dressing made with fish sauce, lime juice, sugar, garlic, and chili peppers. The result is a dish that is both savory and refreshing. This recipe is also a great way to use up any leftover mussels you may have.
