CHRISTMAS FRUIT SALAD

Christmas Fruit Salad image

It was at the very first Thanksgiving I spent with my husband's family that I tasted this for the first time. My mother-in-law shared the recipe. I serve it for special occasions, plus it's a main-stay at the potlucks we have at work. After 41 years of marriage, my husband and I still enjoy the salad - along with our four children and their spouses and our nine grandchildren. -Ina Vickers, Dumas, Arkansas

Time 1h30m

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

16 ounces plain yogurt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
6 -8 Red Delicious apples, cored and cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 cup green grape

Steps:

  • Combine yogurt, nutmeg, sugar and vanilla, mixing well.
  • Pour over prepared fruit, tossing to cover the apples and grapes.
  • Chill.
  • Before serving, dust with a little extra nutmeg.

Tips:

  • Use seasonal fruits: Seasonal fruits are at their peak of freshness and flavor, so they'll taste best in your fruit salad.
  • Choose brightly colored fruits: Fruits with vibrant colors, such as berries, oranges, and kiwi, will make your fruit salad more visually appealing.
  • Vary the textures: Include fruits with different textures, such as soft berries, crunchy apples, and juicy oranges, to create a more interesting salad.
  • Add some herbs or spices: Herbs like mint or basil can add a refreshing flavor to your fruit salad, while spices like cinnamon or nutmeg can add a warm, cozy flavor.
  • Don't overdress the salad: A little bit of dressing goes a long way. Too much dressing can overwhelm the flavors of the fruit.
