Tips:

  • Use fresh yeast for best results. If using active dry yeast, proof it in warm water with a little sugar before adding it to the dough.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. This will help to develop the gluten in the dough, which will give the cinnamon rolls a light and fluffy texture.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. This will give the yeast time to ferment and produce carbon dioxide, which will create air pockets in the dough.
  • Roll out the dough into a large rectangle. The thinner you roll it, the more layers your cinnamon rolls will have.
  • Spread the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough. Be sure to get all the way to the edges.
  • Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long side. Pinch the seam to seal it.
  • Cut the dough into 12 even pieces. Place the cinnamon rolls in a greased baking dish.
  • Let the cinnamon rolls rise again in a warm place until they have doubled in size. This will take about 30 minutes.
  • Bake the cinnamon rolls in a preheated oven until they are golden brown. This will take about 20-25 minutes.
  • Let the cinnamon rolls cool slightly before frosting them.
