1 cup water

1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup butter, melted
3 teaspoons vanilla
1 egg
1 cup dried apple slices, coarsely chopped
Cool Whip frozen whipped topping, thawed, if desired
