This is an adaptation from Tom & Candy's recipe. I have made this twice for Thanksgiving breakfast for the school teachers and always get lots of compliments....and requests for the recipe. You can switch out the meat for any type of breakfast meat you might like.

MORNING BREAKFAST CASSEROLE
My family loves morning casseroles. I love them because all the work is done the night before. This really comes in handy on those mornings when you have overnight company and want something really yummy, but don't especially want to make the large mess in the kitchen.

SUNDAY MORNING BREAKFAST CASSEROLE RECIPE - (4.5/5)

Steps:
- Grease a 2.5-3 quart baking dish (attractive enough to bring to the table) with butter, oil, or cooking spray. Cube the bread and place in the dish in a single even layer. In a large skillet, cook the sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, until it's almost cooked through, about 5 minutes. Drain off the fat. Layer the sausage over the bread, and top with potatoes. Sprinkle the cheese on top. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper to taste. Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and potatoes in the casserole. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. When ready to cook the casserole, preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Bake the casserole until set and golden about 30 minutes. Serve hot.
Tips:
- Prep Ahead: Save time in the morning by prepping ingredients the night before. Chop vegetables, mix the egg mixture, and even assemble the casserole. Then, all you have to do is pop it in the oven in the morning.
- Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh vegetables and herbs will give your casserole the best flavor. If you can, use organic or locally grown ingredients whenever possible.
- Choose Your Cheese Wisely: The type of cheese you use can make a big difference in the flavor of your casserole. For a classic flavor, use cheddar cheese. For a more unique flavor, try using Gruyère, Fontina, or Parmesan cheese.
- Don't Overcook: The casserole is done when the eggs are set and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Overcooking will make the eggs tough and the casserole dry.
- Serve with Your Favorite Toppings: You can serve the casserole with a variety of toppings, such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, or hot sauce. You can also add a side of fruit or salad.
Conclusion:
A breakfast casserole is a delicious and easy way to start your day. It's perfect for busy mornings or for a special brunch. With so many different variations, you're sure to find a recipe that you'll love. So next time you're looking for a quick and tasty breakfast, give one of these casseroles a try.
