½ cup butter, softened
½ cup shortening
1 ½ cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Blend in flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.
  • Mix 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon together. Roll balls of dough in mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

SUGAR COATING:
2 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
COOKIE DOUGH:
1 c shortening
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. In a small bowl stir together sugar coating ingredients and set aside.
  • 2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening and 1 1/2 cups sugar. Stir in the eggs. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until well blended.
  • 3. Shape cookie dough into walnut sized balls, then roll the balls in the cinnamon-sugar. Place them onto an ungreased cookie sheet, two inches apart. Flatten slightly. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Edges should be slightly brown. Remove from sheets to cool on wire racks.
