This is good without any topping, but I have tried a variety of things on the top: melted chocolate frosting, powdered sugar or glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

1/2 cup shortening (i.e. crisco)

3 cups plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon lemon flavoring

Tips:

  • Use the right ingredients. Make sure you have all the ingredients you need and that they are fresh and of good quality. This will make a big difference in the final product.
  • Measure your ingredients accurately. This is important for any baking recipe, but especially for pound cake. The proportions of the ingredients need to be precise in order for the cake to turn out correctly.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. This will help to incorporate air into the batter, which will make the cake light and airy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. This will help to prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Fold in the flour and baking powder gradually. Do not overmix the batter, as this will make the cake tough.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven. This will help to prevent the cake from sinking in the middle.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

Pound cake is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be dressed up or down with different frostings and toppings. With its rich, buttery flavor and moist texture, pound cake is sure to please everyone. So next time you are looking for a delicious and elegant dessert, give this pound cake recipe a try.
