Grandma's Hamburger Dressing/Stuffing image

I just love this recipe. I've never written it down and I hope this is pretty close, because I always just make it by heart. As a child I always demanded this during Thanksgiving and Xmas. It's a savory and delicious side dish anytime. UPDATE: Just went home to Michigan and found copy my grandmother wrote down and this recipe is EXACT! It's scaled down 1/3 so make double and triple this recipe if you have a large family, because I GUARANTEE they'll love it!

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb hamburger
1 large onion, chopped
1 large boiling potato, chopped in cubes
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 cups beef broth

1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper

MOM'S LEGENDARY STUFFED HAMBURGERS

Mom's Legendary Stuffed Hamburgers image

These are enormous, stick-to-your-ribs kind of burgers with a surprise in the center. A real family favorite. I like to serve them on a bun topped with sauteed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Use extra lean or lean ground beef instead of medium because the bacon adds to the fat content of the meat.

Time 35m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 small onion, chopped
4 slices bacon, chopped
fresh-ground black pepper

STUFFED HAMBURGERS

Stuffed Hamburgers image

I believe I was in girlscouts when I learned how to make these. They have great flavor and hardiness to them. It is one of my husbands favorite meals. Oh he still likes his mashed potatoes with them so he can enjoy the wonderful mushroomy gravy that is made from them as they cook. I serve these with fresh green beans. I always...

Time 1h25m

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 lb hamburger
2 eggs
1 large can of cream of mushroom soup
2 box stove top stuffing mix (i use chicken flavored, but any will do)

Steps:

  • 1. prepare stuffing as directed on box, set aside.
  • 2. mix hamburger together with egg. press hamburger into 4-6 inch diameter round and 1/4 inch thick. (I use a sheet of plastic wrap and do it by hand, it doesnt need to be perfect but the plastic wrap makes it easier to fold over and place into the pan.)
  • 3. place a scoopful of stuffing on one side of the hamb. patty, and fold over to make half moon shape, press around hamb to seal in stuffing. place into 9x13 pan.
  • 4. open can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, pour into a bowl and whisk until spreadable. then cover the stuffed hamburgers evenly and cover pan with aluminum foil.
  • 5. place in a preheated 350* oven for one hour. And enjoy.

Tips for Making Mom's Hamburger Stuffing:

  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: This will make a big difference in the flavor of your stuffing. Look for ground beef with a high fat content (at least 80%), and make sure the bread is fresh and crusty.
  • Don't overmix the stuffing: Overmixing will make the stuffing tough. Gently mix the ingredients together until they are just combined.
  • Season the stuffing well: Use a variety of seasonings to add flavor to the stuffing, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. You may also want to add some fresh herbs, such as parsley or sage.
  • Stuff the turkey loosely: Don't pack the stuffing too tightly into the turkey, as this will prevent it from cooking evenly. Stuff the turkey loosely so that there is some space for the stuffing to expand.
  • Bake the turkey at a high temperature: This will help to brown the stuffing and give it a crispy crust. Bake the turkey at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 3 hours, or until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Conclusion:

Mom's Hamburger Stuffing is a delicious and easy-to-make stuffing that is perfect for Thanksgiving dinner. With its combination of ground beef, bread, vegetables, and seasonings, this stuffing is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make stuffing recipe, give Mom's Hamburger Stuffing a try.
