MOM'S CRANBERRY SAUCE

Mom's Cranberry Sauce image

This recicpe is so good-I swear it taste like a piece of cheesecake. My mom makes this on Thanksgiving as well as throughout the year. She got it off of another website but doesn't remember which one. It's also very easy to make. You could easily use frozen cranberries but she always uses fresh. It's one of my favorite dishes that she makes. It's so sweet you could eat it as a desert...enjoy!

MOM'S THANKSGIVING CRANBERRY RELISH

Mom's Thanksgiving Cranberry Relish image

This is one of my mom's age old recipes. It was always on our holiday table. When it's ready to eat, you just put a little on the side of your plate and eat it the way it is.

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pkg whole fresh cranberries (i think they come in 16 oz. packages)
1 whole fresh lemon
1 whole fresh orange
2 c sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Using a grinder or a food processor, (not a blender) grind the cranberries and alternate with chunks of orange and lemon, including the rinds. Add sugar to the mixture. Mix well. This is best if made about 2 days ahead of time and kept refrigerated. (Gives the flavors time to blend well!) **Mom says that a grinder works best, but you can use a food processor (just pulse it) if you take care not to let it turn to mush. The idea is to have a coarse "relish" consistency. This recipe is not only delicious, but really looks pretty.

BECKY'S MOM'S CRANBERRY SAUCE

Becky's Mom's Cranberry Sauce image

Becky's mom's recipe is so good that even anyone who says they do not like cranberries will love it! This sauce is fantastic. It should be made at least 2 weeks before use. However, I've made it the day before and it was still really good.

Tips:

  • Use fresh cranberries. Fresh cranberries have a brighter flavor and a more vibrant color than frozen cranberries.
  • Rinse the cranberries thoroughly before using them. This will remove any dirt or debris that may be on the cranberries.
  • Chop the cranberries coarsely. This will help the relish to hold its shape when it is cooked.
  • Use a variety of citrus fruits in the relish. This will add a bright and tangy flavor to the relish.
  • Add some nuts or seeds to the relish for a crunchy texture. Walnuts, pecans, and almonds are all good choices.
  • Let the relish chill for at least 2 hours before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Mom's Cranberry Relish is a delicious and easy-to-make recipe that is perfect for the holiday season. It is a great way to use up leftover cranberries, and it is also a delicious addition to any Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
