6-7 c apples, peeled & sliced thin
1/8 c sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
TOPPING
3/4 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c flour
3/4 c quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/2 c butter, softened (not melted)
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375. Grease bottom & sides of an 8x8 square pan with shortening.
  • 2. In a small bowl, mix together 1/8 c of sugar and 1/4 tsp cinnamon.
  • 3. Toss together with the peeled, thinly sliced apples until coated evenly.
  • 4. Spread apples in the bottom of the pan.
  • 5. Mix together all topping ingredients except butter. Once mixed, add butter.
  • 6. Mix well. I find it easiest to use my hands to incorporate the butter into the mixture.
