MOM'S CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE

Mom's Chocolate Pound Cake image

This was one of my favorite things to make when I learned to bake. My mom made this when we were little and it was a real treat to have this as a decadent coffee cake. This is good without any topping, but I have tried a variety of things on the top: melted chocolate frosting, powdered sugar or glaze made from powdered sugar and milk.

  • Use room temperature ingredients: This will help your cake batter come together more smoothly and evenly.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy: This will incorporate air into the batter, resulting in a lighter, more tender cake.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition: This will help prevent the batter from curdling.
  • Mix in the dry ingredients gradually: This will help prevent the batter from becoming overworked, which can lead to a tough cake.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This will help ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting: This will help prevent the frosting from melting and sliding off the cake.
