**Salsa**, a vibrant and flavorful condiment, holds a special place in Mexican cuisine. Its versatility extends beyond tacos and burritos, making it a perfect accompaniment to grilled meats, fish, or even as a dip for chips. This article presents a collection of salsa recipes that cater to diverse preferences, from classic to unique variations.

The classic salsa roja, also known as red salsa, forms the foundation of many Mexican dishes. With its blend of tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and chili peppers, it offers a balanced combination of freshness, spiciness, and tang. Another popular choice is salsa verde, or green salsa, which derives its color from tomatillos and green chili peppers. Its bright and zesty flavor profile makes it an excellent choice for enchiladas and tamales.

For those seeking a smoky and spicy kick, salsa borracha, or drunken salsa, is a delightful option. This salsa incorporates beer, tequila, and chipotle peppers, resulting in a complex and robust flavor. Salsa negra, or black salsa, offers a unique twist with its combination of dried chiles, nuts, and spices, delivering a rich and earthy taste.

If you prefer a creamy and mild salsa, salsa cremosa, or creamy salsa, fits the bill. Made with roasted tomatoes, sour cream, and avocado, it offers a smooth and velvety texture that complements dishes like tacos and quesadillas. Last but not least, salsa de arbol, or tree chili salsa, brings intense heat and smokiness to the table. Prepared with dried árbol chiles, this salsa is perfect for those who enjoy a fiery kick.

With this diverse selection of salsa recipes, you'll have a flavorful addition to elevate your next Mexican feast or everyday meal. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds and experience the vibrant flavors of salsa!

Food Network's Ree Drummond shares her recipe for homemade restaurant-style salsa that the whole family will love!

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     condiment

Time 1h15m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

Two 10-ounce cans diced tomatoes and green chiles, such as Rotel
One 28-ounce can whole tomatoes with juice
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves (or more to taste!)
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1 whole jalapeno, quartered and sliced thin, with seeds and membrane
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/2 whole lime, juiced

Steps:

  • Combine the diced tomatoes, whole tomatoes, cilantro, onions, garlic, jalapeno, cumin, salt, sugar and lime juice in a blender or food processor. (This is a very large batch. I recommend using a 12-cup food processor, or you can process the ingredients in batches and then mix everything together in a large mixing bowl.)
  • Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you'd like. I do about 10 to 15 pulses. Test seasonings with a tortilla chip and adjust as needed.
  • Refrigerate the salsa for at least an hour before serving.

EX-GIRLFRIEND'S MOM'S SALSA FRESCA (PICO DE GALLO)

Ex-Girlfriend's Mom's Salsa Fresca (Pico de Gallo) image

My ex's mom had the best hand-chopped salsa fresca I have ever tasted back in college. Over the years, I have tweaked it to something my friends and family rave about. The trick for this salsa is marinating the onions and jalapenos in lime juice for about 5 minutes before adding the tomatoes and cilantro. There are two tricks to this recipe: 1. Hand-chop everything. It takes a while, but it is worth it. 2. The marinating is what makes this salsa special. Hope you enjoy.

Tips:

  • Use ripe, flavorful tomatoes: This is the key to making a great salsa. Look for tomatoes that are deep red and juicy, and avoid any that are green or have blemishes.
  • Roast your tomatoes before salsa-making: Roasting tomatoes concentrates their flavor and gives them a slightly smoky taste. To roast tomatoes, simply toss them with olive oil and salt, then roast them at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-30 minutes, or until they are soft and caramelized.

  • Add some herbs and spices: Herbs and spices can help to brighten the flavor of salsa. Some popular options include cilantro, cumin, garlic, and chili powder.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: There are endless ways to make salsa, so don't be afraid to experiment with different ingredients and flavors. Try adding fruits like mango or pineapple, or vegetables like corn or black beans.
