MOMMA'S POTATO SALAD

Momma's Potato Salad image

My mother used to make the best potato salad. Anytime we had a family gathering everyone requested she make her potato salad. Unfortunately I lost my mother before I could get her original recipe, but from experience of knowing the ingredients she used this recipe is the closest I have came. It's the same but not my mothers touch, as everyone would know a mother's touch is always the best. Hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of potatoes: This will give your salad a more interesting texture and flavor. A good combination is to use a mix of waxy and starchy potatoes. Waxy potatoes, such as red potatoes or fingerling potatoes, will hold their shape well, while starchy potatoes, such as Russet potatoes, will break down and become creamy when cooked.
  • Cook the potatoes until they are tender: You want the potatoes to be cooked through, but not so overcooked that they fall apart. A good way to check if the potatoes are done is to insert a fork into them. If the fork goes in easily, the potatoes are done.
  • Let the potatoes cool slightly before adding the dressing: This will help to prevent the dressing from curdling.
  • Use a light and flavorful dressing: A good dressing for potato salad is one that is light and tangy. A simple vinaigrette, a mayonnaise-based dressing, or a mustard-based dressing are all good options.
  • Add some mix-ins: To make your potato salad more interesting, you can add some mix-ins, such as chopped celery, onion, hard-boiled eggs, or bacon. You can also add some herbs, such as dill, parsley, or chives.
  • Chill the potato salad before serving: This will help to firm up the salad and make it more refreshing.

Conclusion:

Potato salad is a classic dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a versatile dish that can be made with a variety of ingredients, making it perfect for any occasion. Whether you are looking for a simple side dish or a more substantial meal, potato salad is a great option.
