Time 25m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

Vegetable oil, for frying
1 cup all-purpose flour
Kosher salt
1 1/2 pounds chicken wings, split at the joint, wing tips removed and discarded
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons finely grated orange zest
1 teaspoon finely grated lime zest
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Steps:

  • Heat 2 inches of oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer registers 375 degrees F.
  • Whisk together the flour and 3/4 teaspoon salt in a large bowl. Dredge the wings in the flour mixture and fry until browned and crispy, 10 to 12 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, add the cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, orange zest, lime zest, and 2 teaspoons salt in another large bowl. Mix well.
  • Transfer 2 teaspoons of the mojo seasoning to a small bowl and add the sour cream, orange juice and lime juice. Mix to combine.
  • Add the melted butter to the remaining mojo seasoning and whisk to combine. Toss the fried wings in the mojo butter. Serve with the sour cream dipping sauce.

Tips:

  • Use a variety of citrus fruits: For a more complex flavor, use a mix of oranges, limes, and lemons.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different herbs and spices: Cumin, oregano, and cilantro are all great additions to mojo sauce.
  • Let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes: This will allow the flavors to penetrate the chicken and make it more juicy and flavorful.
  • Cook the chicken over medium heat: This will help to prevent the chicken from drying out.
  • Serve the chicken with your favorite sides: Rice, beans, and plantains are all great options.

Conclusion:

Mojo chicken wings are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. They are sure to be a hit with your friends and family, and they can be easily customized to your own taste. So next time you are looking for a tasty and affordable meal, give mojo chicken wings a try!
