MOIST HAM LOAF

Not only is this main dish special enough for entertaining, but I can assemble it early in the day and pop it in the oven before dinnertime. It seems much fancier than meat loaf, it's just as easy to make. Plus the cherry sauce really dresses it up, so guests think I fussed.-Nancy Brown, Dahinda, Illinois

Categories     Pork

Time 1h5m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 egg, lightly beaten
1/2 c milk
1/3 c dried panko bread crums
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 lb ground, fully cooked ham
1/2 lb ground turkey
CHERRY SAUCE
1/2 c cherry preserves
1 Tbsp cider vinegar
1/8 tsp ground cloves

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl, combine the first five ingredients. crumble ham and turkey over mixture and mix well. Press into an ungreased 9x5 loaf pan.
  • 2. Bake uncovered at 375F for 50-55 minutes or until a meat thermometer reads 160 degrees.
  • 3. In a saucepan, combine sauce ingredients. Cook and stir over medium heat for 5 minutes or until heated through. Serve sauce down the center top of loaf. (like picture shows) Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Use a fully cooked ham that is not too salty. A smoked ham will give the loaf a more intense flavor.
  • Grind the ham finely: This will help the loaf to hold together better. You can use a food processor or a meat grinder to do this.
  • Don't overmix the ingredients: Overmixing can make the loaf tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Use a loaf pan that is the right size: The loaf should fill the pan about two-thirds full. If the pan is too large, the loaf will be too thin and may not cook evenly.
  • Bake the loaf at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour and 15 minutes: The loaf is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the center reads 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Let the loaf cool slightly before slicing: This will help the loaf to hold its shape. You can serve the loaf warm or cold.

Conclusion:

Ham loaf is a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or sandwich. It is also a great way to use up leftover ham. With its simple ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, this moist ham loaf is a surefire hit with your family and friends.
