1 c semi-sweet mini chocloate chips
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed

Steps:

  • 1. Chop dates and place in a medium size heat proof bowl. Add baking soda and pour boiling water over dates and soda. Stir and cool. Water will foam up.
  • 2. Cream shortening and sugar until well creamed. Add eggs and beat until smooth

  • Soak the dates in hot water: This will help to soften them and make them easier to blend.
  • Use a food processor or high-powered blender: This will help to create a smooth and creamy batter.
  • Do not overmix the batter: Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake.
  • Bake the cake in a preheated oven: This will help to ensure that the cake rises evenly.
