Time 15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 pound skirt steak
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon sugar
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Eight 6-inch corn tortillas
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 medium red onion, halved and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
Sour cream, guacamole, salsa verde, pico de gallo and shredded Mexican-blend cheese, for serving

Steps:

  • Cut the steak along the grain into 3-inch pieces, then slice each piece across the grain into 1/3-inch-thick strips. Toss the steak in a medium bowl with the chili powder, oregano, sugar, 3/4 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over high heat. Meanwhile, wrap the tortillas in a clean dishcloth, and microwave at 100 percent for 1 minute. Let sit, wrapped in the dishcloth, until ready to serve.
  • When the skillet is hot, add the oil. Add the seasoned steak in an even layer. Don't stir for 2 minutes, then give the steak a good stir and let cook until browned, about 1 1/2 minutes more. Transfer the steak to a medium bowl. Immediately add the onions to the skillet, and stir until brown and slightly softened, about 1 1/2 minutes; transfer to the bowl with the steak, and stir to combine.
  • Set up a taco bar with the steak and onions, wrapped tortillas, sour cream, guacamole, salsa verde, pico de gallo and cheese.

2 (5 ounce) boneless sirloin steaks

½ cup beef broth
1 ½ tablespoons barbeque sauce
1 dash hot pepper sauce
freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon cold butter, or more to taste
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • Pour the broth mixture into the skillet and bring to a boil while scraping the browned bits of food off of the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Stir occasionally until butter is melted and incorporated, about 2 minutes.
  • Spoon broth and butter mixture over steak and serve.

Tips

  • Selecting the Right Minute Steaks: Look for thin, tender cuts of beef like top sirloin or flank steak. These cook quickly and evenly, making them ideal for this recipe.
  • Tenderizing the Steaks: To ensure maximum tenderness, use a meat mallet or a fork to gently pound the steaks before cooking. This helps break down the muscle fibers and allows the marinade to penetrate more deeply.
  • Creating a Flavorful Marinade: The marinade is crucial for infusing the steaks with delicious flavors. Combine a blend of spices, herbs, and liquids such as olive oil, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Allow the steaks to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for an even deeper flavor.
  • Cooking the Steaks to Perfection: Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the steaks for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. For medium-rare, cook for 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Searing the Steaks for Extra Flavor: Once the steaks are cooked to your liking, sear them briefly over high heat to create a beautiful crust and enhance their flavor.
  • Preparing the Taco Sauce: To make a simple yet flavorful taco sauce, combine tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder. Simmer the sauce until it thickens slightly, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  • Assembling the Minute Steak Tacos: Warm the tortillas in a skillet or over a flame to make them pliable. Fill each tortilla with a cooked minute steak, top with taco sauce, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and any other desired toppings. Serve immediately for a delicious and satisfying meal.

These flavorful and versatile minute steak tacos are a quick and easy weeknight meal that the whole family will love.
