AL AMIR'S MIDDLE EASTERN TEA (HOT OR ICED)

Al Amir's Middle Eastern Tea (Hot or Iced) image

My copycat version of Al Amir restaurant's hot/iced tea. I volunteered the rosewater/orange blossom water to the iced tea; it's optional though. Everything is estimated. Rearrange ingredient amounts if desired. If you are using loose tea leaves place them in a tea infuser or muslin cloth.

LEBANESE TEA

Lebanese Tea image

A light and refreshing version of iced tea that is served at all the local Greek and Lebanese restaurants. I was quite surprised to discover that this recipe actually originated in the New Orleans / Baton Rouge area. The pine nuts don't add anything to the flavor of the drink, so I usually leave them off. I buy my rose water from a local middle eastern grocery store - you can also find it at world market and whole foods, or online. You can adjust the amounts of sugar, rose water, and lemon juice to suit your tastes.

MOROCCAN ORANGE BLOSSOM TEA RECIPE

Moroccan Orange Blossom Tea Recipe image

If you're fortunate enough to be able to get fresh orange blossoms, try this fragrant Moroccan tea, as posted, which combines orange blossoms with spearmint. If however orange trees do not grow in your area you could substitute 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of orange extract for the leaves. I wanted to post this recipe with the authenticity of the method used in Morocco but with the substitution for those unable to acquire orange blossoms. The original version of this recipe was found at 'about.com'. Prep time is the time boiling the water. Cook time is the steeping time. Posted for ZWT 2010

Time 10m

Yield 1/2 liter, 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 tablespoon green tea leaves
10 oranges, blossoms (fresh & washed)
10 spearmint, leaves (fresh & washed)
1/2 liter about 2 cups boiling water
1/4 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Boil a liter of water.
  • Rinse the small tea pot with about 1/4 cup of the boiling water and discard.
  • Add the tea leaves and add 1/4 cup boiling water.
  • Swirl the pot to wash and rinse the leaves, and then carefully discard the water.
  • Add the orange flower blossoms, mint leaves and the sugar.
  • Fill the pot with 1/2 liter (about 2 cups) boiling water.
  • Leave combined tea mixture to steep for five minutes.
  • Gently stir the tea, pour into small tea glasses and serve.

Tips:

  • Select Fresh Mint: Choose vibrant green mint leaves for the best flavor. Look for leaves that are free of blemishes and bruises.
  • Steep Tea Properly: Allow the tea bags or loose tea to steep in hot water for the recommended time to extract maximum flavor.
  • Use Clean Water: Fresh, filtered, or spring water is ideal for making iced tea. Avoid using tap water with a strong chlorine taste.
  • Sweeten to Taste: Adjust the amount of honey or sugar syrup based on your personal preference. Consider using natural sweeteners like stevia or monk fruit for a healthier option.
  • Chill Thoroughly: Allow the brewed tea to cool completely before refrigerating. This helps preserve the delicate flavors and aromas.
  • Garnish Elegantly: Add a sprig of mint, a slice of orange, or a twist of lemon to each glass for an attractive presentation.
  • Enjoy Fresh: Iced tea is best consumed within a few days for optimal flavor and quality.

Conclusion:

With its refreshing blend of mint, orange blossom water, and zesty citrus, this iced tea recipe offers a unique and flavorful beverage experience.
