MINT SIMPLE SYRUP FOR SWEET TEA

Mint Simple Syrup for Sweet Tea image

Mint syrup adds flavor to our Southern-style iced Sweet Tea.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Healthy Recipes     Gluten-Free Recipes

Yield Makes about 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 2

1 cup sugar
6 sprigs fresh mint, plus more for serving

Steps:

  • Heat sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil. Stir in mint. Remove from heat, and let stand 30 minutes. Pour through a fine sieve into an airtight container; discard mint. Let cool completely. Syrup can be refrigerated up to 1 month. Serve with additional mint sprigs, if desired.

Tips:

  • To make a refreshing mint syrup, use fresh mint leaves. Dried mint leaves can be used, but they will not have as strong a flavor.
  • The amount of sugar you add to the syrup is up to your preference. If you like a sweeter syrup, add more sugar. If you prefer a less sweet syrup, add less sugar.
  • You can use white sugar, brown sugar, or honey to make the syrup. Each type of sugar will give the syrup a slightly different flavor.
  • If you want a clear syrup, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve before using it. If you don't mind a cloudy syrup, you can skip this step.
  • Store the mint syrup in a jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

Mint syrup is a versatile ingredient that can be used in a variety of drinks and desserts. It's a great way to add a refreshing mint flavor to your favorite recipes. Whether you're making mint tea, mint juleps, or mint chocolate chip ice cream, mint syrup is a delicious and easy way to add a touch of mint.
