MOROCCAN MINT TEA GRANITA
Steps:
- In a large pot bring all ingredients to a boil, except food coloring. Remove from heat and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain and add coloring. Freeze with a metal whisk in mixture. During freezing, whisk periodically to add iciness and a grainy texture to the granita
Tips:
- Fresh mint leaves: Use fresh mint leaves for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh mint, you can use dried mint, but it won't be as flavorful.
- Sugar syrup: You can make your own sugar syrup or use store-bought. To make your own, simply combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
- Lemon juice: Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor. Bottled lemon juice can be used in a pinch, but it won't be as flavorful.
- Freeze in a shallow dish: Freezing the granita in a shallow dish will help it freeze evenly and quickly.
- Scrape the granita every 30 minutes: This will help to break up the ice crystals and create a smooth, slushy texture.
- Serve immediately: Granita is best served immediately after it is made. It can be stored in the freezer for up to a week, but it will start to lose its slushy texture after a few days.
Conclusion:
Mint granita is a refreshing and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for a hot summer day. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and refreshing treat that the whole family will enjoy. Serve it on its own or with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or shaved ice. No matter how you choose to serve it, mint granita is sure to be a hit!
