MINI HOT DOGS 'N' MEATBALLS

Hot appetizers don't come much easier than this recipe. It's so popular I usually double the recipe if I have a larger crock pot. You can vary the meats to suit your family's tastes, or increase the heat factor by using a spicier barbecue or spaghetti sauce. Serve with fancy party picks. -Andrea Chamberlain, Macedon, New York

MINI HOT DOGS

Mini Hot Dogs image

Hot dogs are always a hit with the kids (and big kids too) at all the parties that we have. Here using par-bake dinner rolls or small sized rolls and cocktail frankfurts, baked in the oven for a quick appetizer or snack for any party. So easy to make and very economical too. This recipe is easily doubled. Par-bake rolls are found in most supermarkets and sold in packs of 6 or 12.

Time 3h5m

Yield 8 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

36 (1/2 ounce) frozen cooked italian meatballs
1 (16 ounce) package miniature hot dogs or 1 (16 ounce) package smoked sausage
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package sliced pepperoni
1 (26 ounce) jar meatless spaghetti sauce
1 (18 ounce) bottle barbecue sauce
1 (12 ounce) bottle chili sauce

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in crock pot.
  • Cover and cook on low for 3 hours or until heated through.

Tips:

  • Choose the right hot dogs: Opt for high-quality hot dogs made with premium cuts of meat. This will ensure a better flavor and texture.
  • Prepare the hot dogs properly: Before cooking, pat the hot dogs dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help them brown evenly and prevent them from steaming.
  • Cook the hot dogs over medium heat: This will allow them to cook evenly without burning. If you cook them over high heat, they may brown too quickly on the outside while remaining raw on the inside.
  • Use a variety of toppings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different toppings for your mini hot dogs. Some popular options include ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, and chili. You can also get creative and try more unique toppings, such as guacamole, salsa, or even pineapple.
  • Serve the mini hot dogs immediately: Once they are cooked, serve the mini hot dogs immediately while they are still hot and juicy. You can serve them on a platter or in individual serving containers.

Conclusion:

Mini hot dogs are a fun and easy appetizer or snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are also a great way to use up leftover hot dogs. With a little creativity, you can create a variety of different mini hot dogs that will please everyone. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack, give mini hot dogs a try.
