Number Of Ingredients 4

4 (2-ounce) chocolate candy bars (recommended: Mars Bars or Milky Way)
1/2 stick unsalted butter
2 1/2 cups crunchy sweetened corn cereal (recommended: Cornflakes)
Special equipment: approximately 40 mini muffin papers

  • Break the candy bars into bits and drop them into a saucepan. Add the butter and melt, over lowish heat, stirring frequently with a rubber spatula. When everything is melted (the nougat-like layer takes the longest to go), tip in the cereal and turn them, with your rubber spatula, in the chocolate mixture until they are all pretty well coated.
  • Fill the mini muffin papers with the mixture and put in the refrigerator, on a small sheet pan or tray, for at least 1 hour.

MILKY WAY BAR CRISPY TREATS

Milky Way Bar Crispy Treats image

My kids and husband love these and well, so do I! Every time I make these I think I eat 1/2 of them while cutting into squares! I usually cut smaller pieces as these are sweeter than original treats. Best part is only 3 ingredients! I buy the candy bars when on sale and freeze them for baking later.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. A good rule of thumb is to use chocolate that has a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Do not overcook the caramel. It should be a light amber color and have a slightly thick consistency.
  • Be careful when melting the chocolate. It is easy to burn chocolate, so use a low heat setting and stir constantly.
  • When pouring the caramel over the chocolate, make sure that the chocolate is completely melted. Otherwise, the caramel will not spread evenly.
  • Do not overmix the crispy rice cereal. It should be just combined with the melted butter and sugar.
  • Press the crispy rice cereal mixture firmly into the pan. This will help to keep the bars from crumbling.
  • Chill the bars for at least 2 hours before cutting them. This will help them to set properly.
