MICROWAVE STEAMED ASPARAGUS TIPS
What I love about this recipe is the ease of preparation. The asparagus comes out still crisp. To make things easier I use a Tupperware microwave steamer and I have a gadget called "Misto" that you put olive oil in to mist your foods. Cooking time includes standing time.

STEAMED ASPARAGUS
Steps:
- Pour or spritz the water onto 4 paper towels. Spread out the paper towels and lay the asparagus on top of the dampened towels. Sprinkle with the salt. Roll up the asparagus in the dampened towels. Lay the bundle, seam side down, in the microwave. Microwave on high until the asparagus is just crisp tender, about 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from the microwave using tongs and carefully unwrap. Arrange on a serving platter and serve immediately.
Tips:
- Choose fresh asparagus: Look for asparagus spears that are bright green, firm, and have tightly closed tips. Avoid spears that are wilted, limp, or have yellow or brown spots.
- Trim the asparagus: Cut off the tough, woody ends of the asparagus spears. You can also peel the asparagus spears if desired, but this is not necessary.
- Steam the asparagus in a microwave-safe container: You can use a steamer basket, a colander, or even a plate. Just make sure that the container is large enough to hold the asparagus spears in a single layer.
- Add water to the container: Add just enough water to cover the bottom of the container. This will help to create steam and cook the asparagus evenly.
- Cover the container: Cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap. This will help to trap the steam and cook the asparagus quickly and evenly.
- Microwave the asparagus: Microwave the asparagus on high power for 2-3 minutes, or until the asparagus is bright green and tender. The cooking time will vary depending on the thickness of the asparagus spears.
- Season the asparagus: Once the asparagus is cooked, season it with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings. You can also drizzle the asparagus with olive oil or melted butter.
Conclusion:
Microwave-steamed asparagus is a quick, easy, and healthy way to cook this delicious vegetable. With just a few simple steps, you can have perfectly cooked asparagus in minutes. Whether you are serving it as a side dish or as part of a main course, microwave-steamed asparagus is sure to be a hit.
