MICROWAVE SPICED NUTS

Microwave Spiced Nuts image

This is a great candied nut recipe I stole from my mom. She likes walnuts, I like pecans. It's dead easy and my wife says she needs to leave the house when I make them, so she won't eat them all! Try experimenting with the spices, maybe clove or allspice!

Yield 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons water
3 cups nuts

Steps:

  • Melt butter in 3 qt microwave bowl on high, approx 30 seconds.
  • Stir in sugar, spices, salt, water.
  • Microwave on high 1 minute.
  • Stir in nuts to coat.
  • Microwave 4-5 minutes more, stirring every minute.
  • Pour onto parchment paper and separate nuts. Cool completely.

Tips:

  • Choose the right nuts: Different nuts have different flavors and textures. For this recipe, we recommend using a mix of nuts, such as almonds, walnuts, pecans, and cashews.
  • Use fresh spices: Fresh spices will give your nuts the best flavor. If you don't have fresh spices, you can use dried spices, but be sure to use less, as they are more concentrated.
  • Don't overcrowd the nuts: When you're microwaving the nuts, be sure to spread them out in a single layer. This will help them cook evenly.
  • Watch the nuts carefully: The nuts can burn quickly, so be sure to watch them closely while they're microwaving. Stir them every 30 seconds or so to ensure that they cook evenly.
  • Let the nuts cool before serving: Once the nuts are done cooking, let them cool for a few minutes before serving. This will help them to crisp up.

Conclusion:

Microwave spiced nuts are a quick and easy snack that is perfect for any occasion. They're a great way to add some extra flavor to your next party or potluck, or they can be enjoyed as a healthy snack on the go. With so many different flavor combinations to choose from, you're sure to find a recipe that you'll love.
